Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 7th December

Date: 13th Dec 2015 @ 4:03pm

Well this week was dominated by Christmas as we move towards the end of term.

The week began well with some good news - a second place in the Christmas tree festival in St Chads. A big thank you to all those pupils and parents who attended the festival at the weekend and voted for our tree. And a big thank you to Mrs McCarthy for decorating the tree with the school council (and returning at the weekend with lights).

On Monday, Mrs Maclean took the Year 6 children to Manor park to sing. I was contacted by several people saying how wonderful they thouht it was and the positive impact the children had on some of the residents. The children came back into school sharing some of the stories the residents had shared with them. It is always so nice to hear positive comments about the behaviour of our children and to see them engaging with the local community.

Grace, the leader of the Tomorrow Party and Chair of the school council, met with Sarah Collins who is the Senior Road Safety Officer in the Local Authority and Graham Lowe from the Highways team. The Road Safety Officers, Glenn and Emma, were also invited to the meeting. They discussed ideas on how to improve parking at the front of the school and how to make it safer. Part of their plan is to create a school charter to share with parents and design a banner to be displayed at the front of the school. Someone from the Road Safety team will also come in to lead an assembly on the issue in January.

This week was of course was the Infant Christmas show. At Farndon, we like to be a little different and our nativity scene included Aliens! Their UFO crash landed in the hall and the infant children taught them all about the nativity story. The children were fantastic and performed so well. There was lots of dancing, singing and some fine acting. We all now look forward to the Carol service in the church on the last day of term.

On Thursday, we managed to squeeze in an athletics tournament for our Year 3 and 4 team. 18 children took part in several track and field events against other local schools at a competition held at the High School. Mr Bond was incredibly proud of their performance. One parent said to me - "they totally smashed it!" The practically won nearly every race and accumalated enough points to win the overall team trophy. The trophy cabinet continues to fill up!

On Friday, it was Christmas lunch day. The children came in with some fantastic hats - some of them actually defied gravity! It was a great atmosphere in the hall and Mrs Jones and her team did a great job with the food.

The last week of term looks set to be an exciting few days with Christmas clubs and panto visits. I can't wait.
