Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 4th January

Happy New Year to everyone.

Well Christmas has been and gone. All too quickly as always; I do find that the festive season doesn't feel like a break! On our return to school, everyone I spoke to seemed to have a great couple of weeks and in my first assembly of the new year everyone seemed in good spirits. We discussed targets for the year and how we can maximise our own "personal growth". I asked the children to go onto the VLE and write to their future self. It was great to read their comments and the aspirations they have for the year ahead.

On the first couple of days back, I had a stream of Year 1 and 2 children come to my door. They were very proud to share their technology work they had been doing. They had been busy creating moving pictures, using various mechanisms. They did a very good job.

It is going to be a very busy term in respect of sport. Next week there are 3 football matches! Mr McKie has already held basketball practises in readiness to defend our crown in a few weeks. I am looking forward to another succesful year and raising our sports participation rates even further.

I spent some time teaching in both Year 5 and Year 6 this week. They are clearly excited and enthused to be learning about Space in their Zog topic. What also impressed me was their attitude to their learning in their topic books. The Year 6 pupils were incredibly proud of their Roman books and they have assured me that their Zog books will be even better!!! The Year 5 pupils were creating alien sprites on the laptops and in the next session they will be making them move.

The lower juniors are learning about castles. I was impressed with the Year 4's research and knowlege. They produced some lovely work which is already on the wall.
