Headteacher weekly blog week beginning 27th November 2017

Date: 3rd Dec 2017 @ 10:47am

Well the Autumn term races on and Christmas will soon be upon us. On Monday, I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Reception class practising their Nativity play. With sections of the hall out of action, they are performing within their classroom. I was incredibly impressed with the children and how confident they were when performing. They knew all their lines and the singing was wonderful. The Year 6 pupils got the chance to see their buddies perform and they thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mrs MCarthy and the Year 3 team have been working hard on our school Christmas tree. They brainstormed for a theme and the overwhelming idea was to relate it to the building project in school. The final tree in the church looked absolutely wonderful. It was centred within a brick wall, had "sand"paper chains and all the decorations were based on tools. An original idea and the message the tree was trying to convey was a good one - we are building for a  better future. Well done to all the children and Year 3; you all did a wonderful job.

With so much going on in school, I had to pass the responsibility onto Mr Bond for the Chester football tournament. I think it is fair to say he had an enjoyable afternoon. We have enjoyed a successful Autumn with regard to sport, winning several local tournaments and performing well in the football and netball leagues. However, this tournament was a real challenge with all the very best teams from around the whole of Cheshire West and Chester. I was incredibly proud of the team, winning a tough group and making the semi-finals. After extra time and the scores still 0 - 0, 2 more minutes were played and St Werburghs scored to end our dreams of a famous cup win. However, we won the play off game against Newton 1 - 0 to finish 3rd and qualify for the National competition. Exciting times. I am really looking forward to Monday as the girls will take part in a similar tournament. The girls were desperate for a football team and Harry, our sports coach, has worked hard preparing them for the competition. Will they go one step further than the boys?

Friday was a busy day but thoroughly enjoyable. It was our Read for the Stars celebration. Earlier in the week, those children with 5, 6, 7 or 8 stars had their treat of juice and biscuits at break or an early lunch. But Friday was for those who had all their stars and for both the morning and afternoon sessions the hall was packed!!! We served delcious hot chocolate, mince pies and enjoyed a game of family bingo - with quality texts as prizes obviously! It was wonderful to see so many children reading at home regularly and practising the skills they have been taught in class. As always, a big thank you to Mrs Higley and Mrs Wakefield for all their hard work in organsing this wonderful event. Read for the Stars will continue in January. Keeeeeeppppppp reading!
