Headteacher Weekly blog Week beginning 21st Sept

Date: 26th Sep 2015 @ 9:10am

Well if last week was a slow news week, this week was absolutely jam packed!

The Year 3 and 4 children had a fantastic day on Wednesday where they celebrated "Dahlicious Day". All the children and staff were dressed as their favourite characters and looked fantastic. They took part in lots of fun activities relating to texts from Roald Dahl; I noticed they were making potions form George's Marvellous Medicine which was one of my favourite books as a child.

The Year 3 and 4 pupils have been particularly busy this week. Some of the children had the chance to take part in the school rugby team. On Thursday, they played against other local schools and did so well. They won all their group games and beat Shocklach in the semi final. They met Tattenhall in the final and narrowly lost 5 - 4. There were some fantastic performances and their attitude was fantastic!

On Thursday, we had our Macmillan coffee afternoon to raise funds for cancer research. I must give a big thank you to the parents who donated the wonderful cakes; they certainly looked good enough to eat! I was under the impression the Year 6 house captains were on hand to help serve drinks and cakes, but having seen the photographs I think they spent more time eating it rather than serving it. I was pleased to see we raised lots of money for a really good cause.

On Friday, as a whole school, we celebrated European Day of Languages day. The children took part in a host of actiivities. The parents in Early Years were invited in to share in some of the activities and food tasting from Poland; the jaffa cakes with raspberry filling were delicious, as was the swiss chocolate!! The Year 5 and 6 children experienced Germany and Poland for the day. They enjoyed an inter house boules competition but the German bread did not go down too well. The Year 3 pupils experienced Italy for the day, learning the language and in the afternoon turned the classroom into the Sistine Chapel complete with art work on the ceiling! I was also treated to a very special Portugues cake made with olive oil! Cakes made with olive oil? It's the future! They were surprisingly delicious. It was a fantastic day and the children were able to explore different cultures and languages; Remik even translated some of our celebration assembly into Polish.

Friday was a particularly busy day. We also had the visit from our MP and local Councillor. Antoinette Sandbach came into our assembly and talked to some of our chilldren about democracy and its impact on communities. Members of the Tomorrow Party who won Farndon's general election met with our guests and talked through how they got voted in and and their progress so far on the promises they made in their manifesto. The children were fantastic; they spoke so well and were so confident. Antoinette was most impressed and said they may have future in the House of Commons. Her visit finished with a tour of the school where the Governors talked to Howard Greenwood about supporting the school in replacing the shed and mobiles.

In the middle of the week, we also invited in a school inspector to come in and review the work we have done these last few years. Overall it was hugely positive and we await our imminent OFSTED inspection with confidence and look forward to sharing all the hard work of the staff and its pupils. To help support the school in preparation for their visit we ask for parents to go onto Parent View that can be accessed of our website.

I am now going to have a long lie down after a hectic week.
