Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 15th June

Date: 20th Jun 2015 @ 10:56am

This week seemed to fly by.

It started positively with another sporting win in the rounders. With 4 wins out of 4, the premier sports coaches and Mr Bond did a great job preparing the children for the tournament. As a school, we are always looking to improve our curriculum provision and Mr Bond has some exciting ideas to increase participation in competitive sport. He plans to work with the sports ambassadors and hold some Inter House Sporting events in the Summer term. Also, he plans to work with the High School and review what tournaments are planned for next year. He wants more Infant competition and also development squad tournaments. With these changes we hope to ensure all our pupils are involved in some kind of sporting opportunity.

I met with with Mr Kilner this week who runs Premier Sports. We have set out our vision for PE next year. His coaches will deliver PE sessions for Yr 2 - Yr 6. Mr Bond, our PE lead, will teach Yr 1 and Reception. This means all our children will have quality sport coaching in their PE lessons. They will continue to hold clubs after school with some opportunities for dance added. At lunchtimes, the coaches will hold tournament preparation sessions and active clubs for the infants. Parents have the chance to complete a PE questionnaire on the Parent Virtual Learning platform.

Friday was Pirate Day in the Infants. The children looked fantastic in the pirate outfits and Mrs Pimparel went for the "Jack Sparrow" look. The children had a wonderful day, learning dances and sea shanties and following maps to find the treasure! One clue was hidden in the office and asked where you might find the school caretaker - several pupils ended up in my room!!! I can't wait to see the photographs.

On Saturday, some of our able pupils in Year 3 and 4 for computing and technology were invited to attend a workshop where they will build toys using technic lego and then control them using computer software. The children were very excited and I hope that they share their work on pupil blog. We are looking into organising more of these workshops in various subjects such as science and maths, with some in the school day, to challenge and engage our pupils.
