Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 11th January

Date: 17th Jan 2016 @ 11:44am

Well winter is now well and truly coming after the mild festive season we have enjoyed. Looks like the scrapers will be coming out before we go to school on Monday.

The weather has affected our football so far this term. Although the grass was long and the pitch muddy, we managed to get the cup match and Year 3 and 4 league match played on Monday. The Year 5 and 6 team played so well in the first half but could not make their dominance pay. In the second half we ran out of steam and lost 3 - 1. The Year 3 and 4 managed to overcome the tricky conditions. The game finished 5 - 2 and we are top of the Chester league! Zac scored a brace and recieved a Star of the Week certificate for his excellent attitude and being a good role model for our school - well done Zac!

It has been a week for sport this week. There was a judo demonstration and several junior children made the effort to get up early and attend the morning judo club. They looked great in their suits and looked to be having a great time! Also, we have been focusing on basketball, preparing the Upper Junior children for the up and coming tournament. Mr McKie has been leading morning sessions, but we also had Chester Pheonix Basketball players in school! Not only did they give them some expert coaching, they also led sessions on how to lead a healthy lifestyle. Children in Year 5 and 6 will have the chance to take part in after school clubs before they get the chance to play matches in front of a crowd on the actual Chester Phoenix court!

We were forunate to have Louise, from the Local Authority Road Safety team,  into school to lead an assembly. Glenn and Emma, our Junior Road Safety Officers, did a great job to help her deliver important messages on keeping safe on the roads. Lousie also gave them the message DIPZY with the intention of our pupils helping to make parking outside the front of school a lot safer. I hope parents found the pamphlets that were sent home useful.

Our Reception children have had an exciting week! I went into the classroom on Thursday and was shown how to make my very own Willy Wonka chocolate. The children were having a wonderful time dipping their marshmallows into the chocolate and covering them with a whole manner of tasty treats. They couldn't wait to write their instuctions on making the sweet. Then, the following day, the Reception pupils got to learn about recycling and create models out of some their waste. It was great to see their parents who came in to help - the models looked fantastic!

My week ended with Jack from Year 4 come to my office with his maths book. He was so proud of his efforts in his work and got one of my special Headteacher stickers - I'm sure I saw a tear in Mrs Hughes' eye!
